This 40x60cm acrylic painting on canvas is of the “Little Princess Statue” located on the railings of the Danube promenade in Budapest, by the sculptor László Marton. I enjoyed taking well known Budapest places found in photographs and then using my own style to appropriate them. The challenge of altering the original with new expression, color and details inspires me.
This piece is different from the others in my “Budapest” series, as it is the only one done in acrylic paint instead of oil pastel. It represents my style in the way that this is how I lay down the expressive bright colors in all of my oil pastels. However, in my oil pastels I smear and blend to display my energetic interpretations. With acrylic paint, I had to spend many hours building layers of colors to achieve the visual effect of being fast and spontaneous.
